SCS適応となる患者さまの約82%は、植込み後5年間において、少なくとも1回のMRI撮像を必要とすると推測されています1。

植込み機器による制限

多くのSCS患者さまがMRI撮像を必要とすると推測されますが、SCSシステムはMRIの磁場から深刻な影響を受けるリスクがあり、これまでSCS患者さまの全身MRI撮像は禁忌となっていました。そのため、医師はCTなどの代替手段を撮る必要がありました2。中には、MRI撮像を行うために体内に植込んでいるシステムを一度抜去し、再手術を行うケースもありました3。
また、全身MRI撮像が併用禁忌であることは、医師と患者さまの双方によって、SCSを選択する上でのひとつの障壁となっていたと考えられます。
